What is dry salt therapy?
Salt therapy is a meditative experience where you relax in an enclosed space in which dry salt particles are released into the air. Your skin absorbs the salt and you breath it in as you relax. This type of therapy space replicates the microclimate of natural occurring salt mines.
What is it like in the Haloasis trailer?
It’s a comfortable, temperature-controlled environment with hanging hammock chairs, low lying zero-gravity chairs and benches to relax on. You will hear the calming sound of ocean waves along with the white noise of the salt grinding machine and the furnace or air conditioner. The lights are low, and we ask that participants remain quiet to maintain the meditative atmosphere.
Can I wear my own clothes?
Yes, you can wear you own clothes. We ask people to take their shoes off. We will provide a blanket if you’re chilly. The salt therapy trailer is a public space, so clothes are required.
Do I go in with other people?
Yes, for public events the trailer can comfortable contain six to seven people.
Is breathing the salt particles dangerous for people with asthma and other lung conditions?
Most people with lung issues find that salt therapy relieves their symptoms because of the anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine properties of salt. However, for some people it can aggravate their symptoms.
Can I do salt therapy if I’m pregnant?
There is no known reason you couldn’t do salt therapy pregnant.
What are the benefits of salt therapy?
The benefits fit into the three categories:
- Respiratory. People with allergies, sinus problems, bronchitis, smoker’s cough and other lung ailments report their symptoms may be helped by salt therapy.
- Skin. Europeans have known for centuries of the positive benefits of salt therapy to keeping skin supple and youthful.
- Cognitive. The negative ions that are naturally occurring in the salt are calming to the central nervous system, reducing stimulation and anxiety and creating a wonderful atmosphere for mindfulness and meditation.
What is the machine that grinds the salt up and blows it into the air?
That machine is called a halogenerator.
What kind of salt is it?
We use medical grade, pure sodium chloride approved by the Salt Therapy Association for use in halogenerators.
What does Haloasis mean?
Halo is the Greek prefix meaning salt that is often used in biology, and we put that word together with oasis. Haloasis: a salt oasis.
What kind of seating is in the mobile trailer?
We have five hammock chairs hanging from the ceiling, plus benches and several low lying anti-gravity chairs. People are also welcome to lay on the floor with a yoga mat if they wish.
Is there sound in the mobile salt cave?
There are a variety of sounds in our mobile salt cave. There is white noise from the sounds of the halogenerator and furnace or AC units. We also have a sound bar in the space. We generally use an ocean waves sound but with Bluetooth capability any sound can be used to create the perfect setting.
Can I take a picture inside the trailer?
Yes, but please be mindful of others’ need to relax and their privacy.
Can I listen to my earbuds?
We do play soothing sounds in the cave but if someone wants to enjoy their own music, guided meditation or soundscape then as long as they aren’t disrupting the experience of others then that is ok.
Is there a weight limit for the hammocks?
225 pounds. If participants are heavier than that, they’re welcome to use an anti-gravity chair or sit on one of the three benches.
Can we do salt therapy in the winter?
Yes. The salt therapy space is heated with two furnaces and a heated floor.
What temperature is it?
Using heat or air conditioning, we keep the temperature between 68 and 72 degrees and maintain a low humidity environment so the salt particles are able to freely float throughout the space.
How long does a therapy session last?
The recommended length for a salt therapy session is 45 minutes. For some of our events, we also offer 15 and 30 minute experiences.
How much does it cost?
At public events, we charge $35 for 45 minutes, $30 for 30 minutes and $15 for 15 minutes.
